Thanks CSLEPS!

Thanks CSLEPS!

It’s time to give thanks, and Tilted Nations would like to express its gratitude for the generosity of NC State University’s Center for Student Leadership, Ethics & Public Service. CSLEPS provides leadership education and opportunities to address social justice issues to the NCSU community. Through the monetary support and mentorship of the CSLEPS program, Tilted Nations is growing—reaching out to Triangle youth and beyond.

So thanks CLSEPS—we’re proud to be in your gracious company!

The blog postings lately have been light and fluffy: like a yummy, snozberry, crème fraiche cheesecake. But, in reality life isn’t always low on calories and high in delectability. Sometimes the whole thing falls splat! into our laps, plus, we all know dairy eventually goes sour- vegans have all the fun. This isn’t supposed to be one of those cheesecake blogs we’ve been spoon feeding you over the past few week; with our “go see this movie” and “math, math, math.” This is going to make a few of you uncomfortable, nauseated even, but like I said, life isn’t always candy-coated.

A Formula for Equality? You do the Math.

I don’t know about you, but math was never my strong suit. Especially geometry, do not even get me started with geometry, ughh circles. I stand my ground when I say that theorems and formulas are not these amazing puzzles with numbers, and graphing calculators were just Game Boys gone terribly wrong. Now, I am not completely illiterate when it comes to math. I can do the occasional add and subtract, but don’t push it. However, there is one portion of this unbelievably discouraging subject that is irrefutable to anyone sitting in on a math class—equality.

Swap & Shop with Redress Raleigh

Swap & Shop

Kings has become a huge front runner in Raleigh nightlife since its recent opening, but what it does during the day deserves a bit of stage light as well. On an afternoon this past January, the TN ladies got to help out at a clothing swap promoting Redress Raleigh. Never heard of it? No worries, this train loves late arrivals. Redress Raleigh takes hold of the fashion scene with an eco-friendly approach. We, in Raleigh, are striving to be all about “some local”; however, getting everyone aboard this sewing machine is harder than it looks. The prefix re is Latin based with the simple definition of again, or again and again. This organization takes hold of the hypothetical highlighter and marks over the names of local designers who strive by the mantra of “re” and hems them together with an annual fashion show.

Crossing Borders | Service in Thailand

Crossing Borders | Service in Thailand

I’m no DJ but we want to give a shout out to Ayanna from Michigan. Alongside her mother, Erma, they took time to volunteer with Stratton ABC to help northern Thai children out. Among some of their daily volunteer work they can be seen playing bingo with the children and painting murals in the vegetable garden.  They also held impromptu English classes for them.
